Trainings & Series

GRO offers multiple trainings and series throughout the year on a variety of topics such as Allyship, Pronoun Fluency, Intentional Dialogue, and more! You can also request a training for your student organization, class, or office/department.

Allies training is offered for individuals, student groups, as well as staff and faculty who wish to go the extra step from just learning about sexual orientation and gender identities (SOGI) groups and learn how to actively be an ally both on and off campus. This training covers a refresh of topics introduced in the LGBTQIA+ 101 Training and provides participants with the tools to create individualized action plans. Accomplice Training is the next step of Allies Training, which builds upon the skills in Allies Training to go further into understanding one’s positionality in allyship and how to best serve the LGBTQIA+ community as an accomplice in the struggle for equity. Both Allies Training and Accomplice Training culminate with a certificate of completion. Run time: 2 hours; Minimum 6 people

LGBTQIA+ 101 training is offered for individuals, student groups, as well as staff and faculty who wish to gain a basic understanding and strong foundational knowledge of LGBTQIA+ identities. This training is great for those of all knowledge levels, making it great for diverse group settings. This training covers a wide array of topics and introduces concepts such as social identities, intersectionality, and other related topics. This course is strongly encouraged to complete prior to Allies Training; the goal of this session is to learn and further develop understanding while Allies training is focused on the actionable steps of allyship. Run time: 1-2 hours; Minimum 4 people

Intentional Dialogue Training is offered for all groups on campus and centers the idea of productive and intentional dialogue. We all encounter times where we find ourselves debating rather than listening to one another, and this session will provide participants the skills they need to hold critical conversations with their peers on campus and beyond. Run time: 2 hours; Minimum 8 people

Pronoun Fluency Training is offered for all groups on campus and focuses on the importance of pronouns not just in the LGBTQIA+ community, but our society as a whole. Pronouns have such a strong meaning for how we navigate our lives – especially on a college campus – and this session will provide the opportunity to learn how we can all make an impact regarding pronouns. Run time: 1 hour; Minimum 4 people

Intersectionality Training is offered for all groups on campus and all levels of understanding of the topic of intersectionality. The session is more geared towards those new to the concept, but all are welcome. The session will explain intersectionality and how it manifests in our society, where elements of intersectionality stem from, and how we can understand our own positionality in the conversation surrounding intersectionality. Run time: 1 hour; Minimum 4 people
